One of the most famous of the Speyside distillers, The Macallan has in recent years focussed much of its publicity and marketing on activities which place the brand in the luxury goods space. These include the sale of very old and rare whiskies in Lalique decanters such as the 57 & 64 year old examples that fetched tens of thousands of dollars at auction. Consequently it is easy to overlook the fact that The Macallan is one of the top three selling single malts in the world producing high volumes of sensibly priced, easy drinking Speyside single malt.
As well as various limited edition ranges of rare and older whiskies, The Macallan bottle an extensive array of whiskies at various ages in the Sherry Oak and Fine Oak collections. The latter uses a proportion of american oak casks seasoned in Spain with sherry, whilst the former uses more traditional ex-sherry casks.
