Speyside Distillery is a small single malt whisky distillery near Kingussie, close to the River Tromie in the Cairngorms. Although its story began with George Christie's long-held plan to build a distillery in the Highlands, production did not begin until 1990, giving Speyside a more modern history than its traditional name might suggest.
The distillery is owned by Harvey's of Edinburgh, which acquired Speyside Distillers Company in 2012. Its whiskies are most closely associated with the SPEY brand, while releases such as Beinn Dubh show a darker, more heavily cask-influenced side of the distillery's output. Speyside Distillery has also drawn attention for its relatively small scale and low-key profile, with much of its reputation built through selected releases rather than high-volume visibility.
The house style is generally light, smooth, and fruit-forward, with notes of honey, malt, orchard fruit, vanilla, and gentle spice. Depending on the expression and cask treatment, SPEY bottlings can range from delicate and aperitif-like to richer styles shaped by sherry finishing, darker fruit, and polished oak.
Speyside Distillery's appeal lies in its quiet individuality.
