Allt-a-Bhainne is a Speyside single malt distillery near Dufftown, built in the 1970s during a period of expansion for the Scotch whisky industry. Its name, from the Gaelic for "burn of milk," reflects its rural setting, though the distillery itself was designed as a modern, efficient production site rather than a traditional visitor-led malt distillery.

Today Allt-a-Bhainne is owned by Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard. Much of its whisky has historically been made for blending, particularly within Chivas-related Scotch blends, and for many years the distillery was better known to blenders than to single malt drinkers. Official bottlings have been limited, with independent releases also helping to introduce the name to a wider whisky audience.

The modern official single malt brings a gentle smoky element to a classic Speyside profile. Expect notes of apple, pear, honey, vanilla, malt, soft spice, and a light thread of peat smoke, with independent bottlings varying more widely depending on age, cask type, and strength.

Allt-a-Bhainne is an interesting example of a relatively modern Speyside workhorse finding a clearer single malt identity. It remains low-key compared with the region's well-known names, but its combination of fruit, sweetness, and restrained smoke gives it a distinctive place within the Chivas Brothers portfolio.
