Mortlach is one of Speyside's most distinctive single malts, produced in Dufftown at a distillery founded in 1823 and now owned by Diageo. Long prized by blenders and closely associated with Johnnie Walker, it has also developed a strong reputation as a characterful malt in its own right.
Its style is shaped by an unusually complex distillation regime, often described as partial triple distillation, and by the continued use of traditional worm-tub condensers. The result is a robust, savory, and richly textured spirit, with the weight and depth that earned Mortlach its long-standing nickname as "The Beast of Dufftown".
Today the range centers on mature, age-stated single malts, typically including expressions such as the 12, 16, and 20 Year Old, alongside occasional limited releases. Across the range, Mortlach is known for muscular Speyside richness: dried fruit, dark honey, spice, roasted nuts, and a distinctive meaty depth, balanced by polished oak and a long, warming finish.
