Amahagan is a world malt whisky series from Nagahama Distillery in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The name is Nagahama written in reverse, reflecting its close connection to one of Japan's smallest and most distinctive craft whisky producers, established in 2016 on the shores of Lake Biwa.

Rather than presenting itself as a traditional Japanese single malt, Amahagan is built around blending. The whiskies combine malt from Nagahama with malt whiskies sourced from outside Japan, giving the distillery a way to express its blending style while its own stocks continue to mature. This makes the brand particularly relevant in the modern Japanese whisky landscape, where transparency around origin and classification matters.

The range includes World Malt editions such as No.1, No.2 Red Wine Wood Finish, No.3 Mizunara Wood Finish, and other limited or collaborative releases. Across the series, the style tends to be bright and aromatic, with notes of citrus, orchard fruit, malt, honey, vanilla, spice and, in some expressions, richer wine-cask fruit or the incense-like character of Mizunara oak.

Amahagan is an inventive, small-producer whisky that rewards drinkers who are open to the broader "world whisky" idea. Its interest lies less in age or tradition than in composition, cask detail, and the developing identity of Nagahama as a young Japanese distillery.
