Hammer Head Czech Whisky Distillery

A very Czech whisky with an interesting back story "Hammer Head" was produced at a distillery near Prádlo in the former Czechoslovakia in the 1980s. This was prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall when the country was still a communist state. After producing various spirits at the nationally owned plant, a Single Malt Whisky was distilled in 1989 from local Czech ingredients including the water and barley (even the wood used to make the casks was Czech). Not long after the country was divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia during the Velvet Revolution and the whisky lay maturing until being rediscovered recently when the Stock Spirits Group acquired the company who owned the barrels. Thankfully Hammer Head 1989 is now available on the open market. Why is this whisky called Hammer Head? The name comes from the heavy duty "hammer mill" which they used to grind up the malt.
