Speyburn is a Speyside single malt distillery in Rothes, founded in 1897 by John Hopkins & Company. Built in a wooded glen near the Granty Burn, it has long carried a slightly quieter identity than some of its Speyside neighbors, despite a history that places it firmly within the region's late-Victorian whisky boom.
Today Speyburn is owned by Inver House Distillers, part of International Beverage, and remains an active producer of single malt Scotch. The distillery has grown in capacity in recent years and has also become more accessible to visitors, while its core range includes approachable expressions such as Bradan Orach, the 10 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old, alongside selected limited releases.
The house style is bright, fruity and easy to enjoy, with notes of apple, pear, citrus, honey, vanilla, malt and gentle spice. Older expressions bring more depth and polish, adding richer oak, dried fruit, toffee and a fuller texture while retaining the fresh Speyside character that defines the distillery.
Speyburn is best understood as an unshowy but dependable Speyside malt. It offers classic regional fruit and sweetness without excessive weight or complication, making it a good choice for drinkers who enjoy clean, accessible single malt with genuine distillery heritage behind it.
