Tormore is a Speyside single malt distillery near Grantown-on-Spey, built in the late 1950s for Long John International. Completed at a time when very few new Scotch distilleries were being constructed, it is also notable for its architecture, with a striking Sir Albert Richardson-influenced design that gives it a more formal, almost country-house character than many working distilleries.

For much of its life, Tormore was valued primarily as a blending malt, contributing elegant, fruity spirit to Scotch blends rather than being widely promoted as a single malt. The distillery was acquired by Elixir Distillers from Chivas Brothers in 2022, marking a significant shift in its modern story and bringing renewed focus to Tormore as a standalone whisky name.

Under Elixir Distillers, Tormore has moved into a more visible single malt era, with a permanent core range launched in 2026 alongside continuing interest from independent bottlers. Its style is typically light, polished, and fruit-forward, with notes of pear, apple, melon, citrus, honey, vanilla, and gentle spice, while sherry-influenced expressions add richer fruit and soft oak depth.

Tormore now feels like a distillery being brought properly into focus. Long admired behind the scenes, it offers a graceful Speyside profile with enough freshness and texture to make its new chapter as a single malt especially promising.
